Just picked up an email from Fortnum & Mason advertising 25% off the case price of, among others, (and this is my star pick), Fonseca Quinta do Panascal 1998.
Here’s my tasting note from a vertical of Fonseca port presented by winemaker David Guimaraens: “robust but ripe tannins beneath its red and black fruits with pronounced liquorice; nice freshness and length. Well made.” It’s a great buy at £19.88/bottle – see here for further details of the Fonseca tasting, explaining the philosophy behind their vintage port range (they make three), co-fermentation, block planting and the like.

I am sure I can not get that price in Portugal!Panascal is a very good port from a very beautiful quinta, from 1998 I think Malvedos should be another good choice,as well Senhora do Bonfim, too.Do you agree?

Hi José and thanks for your comments – sorry to cause you price envy! There have been some good Single Quinta Port deals over here for sure and, for wines of this quality, they are something of a bargain. And yep, with you on the Dow and Grahams – also really good 98s.
