My events
I chose the name The Wine Detective because a glass of wine isn’t just a great source of pleasure. It’s also jam-packed with clues about the grapes from which the wine is made, the age of the wine, how much it costs and where it is from.
My mission is to help others unlock these clues to enhance their appreciation of wine. For companies, wine societies, and individuals, The Wine Detective tastings and staff training offer an informative and fun way of engaging with wine. You can find client feedback here.
Corporate tastings
Great for team-building or an informal get-together with colleagues, friends and clients, tastings provide an opportunity to learn more about wine and have some fun along the way! Tastings are tailored to your brief and can cover:
- An introduction to wine-tasting
- Advanced tasting skills
- “Blind” tastings
- Themed tastings
- Wine games and quizzes
Cost
Key cost variables are the number of people, cost of the wine and type and duration of the event. One bottle of wine serves 15 tasting portions and anything from 6-12 wines are shown. Please contact me for a quotation.
Duration
Typically, a wine tasting lasts for about 2-3 hours but it really depends on your brief – it can be shorter or longer. It can be delivered at any time of the day, although for obvious reasons evenings are more popular!
Case study
“We wanted to arrange a fun marketing event for a small but important group of clients. We asked Sarah to present a competitive wine tasting that would be suitable for connoisseurs and novices alike. This she did admirably, presenting 10 wines, representing a range of styles and grape varieties. Points were awarded for correctly identifying whether the wines were Old or New World, their country of origin and their retail price.
The competitive element (and the wine!) encouraged lively discussions between team members and the evening was a great success overall. Sarah’s great skill is in making wine appreciation fun and accessible. We have no hesitation in recommending The Wine Detective to others and we look forward to working together with Sarah again in the future.” – Sue Millar, Partner, Stephenson Harwood Solicitors.

Public tastings
One-off The Wine Detective tastings
These provide a great opportunity to find out about a country, region or wine style. My tastings have a strong following and are fun but informative. They are presented in a relaxing, convivial environment, usually with up to 30 places available.
Having given a short overview of the theme, I introduce each wine, giving you an insight into the producer, grape variety, terroir and winemaking process. After tasting the wine, there is an open discussion about it and a chance to ask questions before moving onto the next glass. Tastings usually last a couple of hours and are followed by a delicious light supper which is included in the ticket price.
I shall post details of forthcoming tastings here.
Public events and courses
I also present at public events and courses hosted by various clients, for example:
- Wine walks and WSET courses for Wine Australia;
- The Wine Show for Viniportugal; and
- WSET courses for Wines of South Africa.
Details of forthcoming public tastings and events are posted on this page and you can get the heads up direct to your inbox by subscribing to The Wine Detective newsletter – it’s free!
