I know Paul Mapplebeck through my dealings with a couple of wine societies of which he is member. These include The Civil Service Club where Paul is very generously presenting wines from his very fine collection of mature Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone and Australian wines. In each case, 10 wines are shown. Here’s the heads up on upcoming events:
The line up of fine St Julien Bordeaux at next Wednesday, 11th April tasting includes 98 Leoville Lascasses, 95 Leoville Poyferre, 90 Leoville Barton and 89 Ducru Beaucaillou.
On 9 May, red Burgundies on show include Grand Crus Charmes Chambertin (A Rousseau), 2000 Chapelle Chambertin (Ponsot), 1990 Mazis Chambertin (Maume), as well as 2000 Chambolle-Musigny (Ghislaine Barthod) and 88 Vosne-Romanee Cros Parantoux (Meo Camuzet)
It’s St Emilion’s turn on 13 June and top wines include 95 Cheval Blanc and 94 Tertre Roteboeuf.
An Aussie tasting on 11 July deviates from the usual ticket price of £35. For £25 you get to taste select Cabernet Sauvignons including 99 Penfolds Bin 707 and 97 Henschke Cyril Henschke.
On August 22, a tasting of Hermitage includes 97 Chave, 03, 85 & 83 Guigal and 95 & 91 Chapoutier Sizeranne.
Tastings are held at The Civil Service Club, 15 Great Scotland Yard, near Charing Cross and usually start at 6pm. For details of tickets and availability, contact Paul Mapplebeck on 0208 866 9314.
