At last year’s Australia Day tasting, varietal tables for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay reinforced how a new generation of winemakers are really starting to get under the skin of these Burgundian varieties (you can find my notes here).
This year, I made a bee-line for Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley producers who are leading the charge – click here for tasting notes of all my favourite wines. The name of the first producer – Ten Minutes by Tractor – tells something of the story. It’s about detail, working with individual parcels or vineyards, rather than adopting a melting pot approach.
